Somnath Jyotirlinga in Saurashtra, Gujarat is considered to be the first Jyotirlinga on this earth. It is said that this Shivling was established by Chandradev himself. It is mentioned in Rigveda. It has been destroyed and rebuilt 17 times so far.

It is located in Andhra Pradesh on the banks of the Krishna River on a mountain called Srisailam. The importance of this temple is said to be similar to Mount Kailash of Lord Shiva. It is said that a mere sight of this Jyotirlinga frees one from all sins and destroys physical and material heat.
