has advised banks to stop issuing 2000 rupee notes with immediate effect. What
did the banks say?
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is going to withdraw the 2000 rupee note. This
note will remain in circulation. The Reserve Bank of India has advised banks
to stop issuing Rs 2000 bank notes with immediate effect. In the year 2016,
after demonetisation, 2000 thousand rupees notes were introduced. 500 and 1000
rupee notes were stopped during demonetisation.
Now new currency notes of 2 thousand rupees will not be printed. RBI will
accept 2 thousand currency notes till September 30. RBI will no longer issue
new 2 thousand rupee notes. Presently the 2 present notes in the market will
be valid. 2000 rupee notes can be exchanged in the bank till September 30. 20
thousand rupees can be deposited in the bank at once.
This has been announced by tweeting from the Reserve Bank of India.
RBI said in a press release that printing of Rs 2000 notes was stopped in
2018-19 itself. 2000 thousand rupees note was introduced after demonetisation
in November 2016. 500 and 1000 rupee notes were stopped in demonetisation.

Meanwhile, the government said that this step has been taken to eliminate
corruption and curb printing of fake notes. On this, the opposition parties
attacked the central government and said that the government has taken this
decision without thinking.
