 Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni turns 42 today. Dhoni’s last match was against Gujarat in the IPL final at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on 29 May.

Dhoni used to play soccer before he started playing cricket. The coach recognized his goalkeeping skills and gave him wicketkeeping gloves.

This photo was taken during the 2002-03 Duleep Trophy when Dhoni was selected in the final instead of wicketkeeper Deep Das Gupta. Dhoni scored a half-century goal in the second inning of that match.

Now let’s take a look at his international career…

Dhoni made his ODI debut on 23 December 2004 against Bangladesh in Chatgram. Here is a photo of his first international match.

In his first international match of his career, Dhoni hit No. 7 and was eliminated without conceding a goal.

In the first game of his career, Dhoni was sent off for a Diamond Duck (keep clean if the ball was not played). He became the 17th Indian batsman to be sent off for a wicket in his international debut. Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laksman were sent off with zero points in their debuts.

On 5 April 2005, Dhoni scored his career first century at the 2nd ODI of his Tour of Pakistan. He allowed 148 runs on 155 pitches in one inning.

On 31 October 2005 in Jaipur, Dhoni played a career-best ODI his innings against Sri Lanka. He used 10 6-balls and 15 4-balls, and scored 183 RBIs on 210 pitches.

Dhoni made his Test debut on 2nd December 2005 against Sri Lanka at Chepauk Stadium. MSD scored 30 points in the first game of his debut. The

Dhoni achieved its first Test Century on 21st January 2006 against Pakistan. He scored 148 points in two innings for India.

Dhoni made his first appearance as captain on 14 September 2007. India then won a draw against Pakistan by bowling out during his T20 World Cup. The Indian team’s opening match of the tournament was against Scotland, which ended in a draw due to rain.

Team India won its first T20 World Cup title on 24th September 2007 under Dhoni’s captaincy. The team defeated Pakistan by five points.

In November 2007, Dhoni captained his ODI team for the first time against Australia in India. Dhoni replaced Rahul Dravid in office.
